Met Mast Construction. (for wind measurement and creating data to perform wind analysis for potential wind turbine sites)
The met mast is constructed from T6 tempered aluminium mast tubes, chosen for their light weight, allowing the diameter to be kept to a minimum. The small diameter minimises wind and ice loading, which in turn reduces the required holding strength of the ground anchors.
The met mast tubes are coupled together using precision machined internal pins which increases the allowable buckling load. The base plate is laser cut and folded from galvanised steel plate.
The guy connection points (spiders) are laser cut and formed under numerical control from stainless steel plate.
Booms for the anemometers and wind vane are constructed from galvanised tube to meet IEC wind monitoring standards and keep installation as simple as possible. All external cables are UV stabalised and shielded to ensure long life and minimum electromagnetic interference.
Brackets to locate the photo voltaic panel and logger enclosure are laser cut and formed from aluminium sheet to provide simple, hassle-free installation.
The IP65 logger enclosure contains a CR200 Campbell Scientific logger, 3.3 Ah battery, GSM modem and a signal conditioning unit.
